Solution to the problem that NVIDIA driver update for Hive OS gets stuck in the middle

time 2022/05/17

Recently, NiceHash finally lifted the hash rate limit for Ethereum mining in the LHR version of RTX. NBMiner, GMiner, and other miners have followed suit, and now that Hive OS has also lifted the hash rate limit, you may want to update the NVIDIA driver for Hive OS. This time, I will write a note about the solution to the problem I faced when updating NVIDIA drivers. I think that you will run nvidia-driver-update from the shell opened in Hive Shell Start, but if the update takes a long time, the shell will terminate and nvidia-driver-update may be from the beginning. I did it again and again. As a solution to this, try running the command below.

screen nvidia-driver-update

After that, you only need to wait a few hours for the update to be over. End.           Let me explain a little more. HiveOS is running on Ubuntu, but when the session is closed, the commands, apps, etc. that are running will be terminated. The reason why the update does not complete is because the session is closed and the update is interrupted. As a solution, when you perform an update on the screen, the command does not terminate the app when the session is closed, but continues in the background. Actual screenshots here. First, run screen nvidia-driver-update. The update has begun. After a while, the time passes and the session closes. If you do not use screen, if you run screen nvidia-driver-update again, it will resume halfway if you are lucky, or from the beginning if you are bad. However, if you use a screen, you can rest assured that it is moving in the background. If you leave it like this for a few hours, the update will still finish, but if you are worried that you will not be able to see the progress, try the following: Then, the command running in the background and the application list are displayed. Autofan is probably the control of the fan, miner is the app that is actually doing the mining, what is the agent? This time, there is a use for pts-4.rig~~~. The name probably changes from person to person, so guess it from the time to the right of the name. Insert screen -r followed by pts-4.rig~~~. Then… I was able to confirm that the update did not finish and was running in the background. The session will be closed after a while, but you can check the progress again with the screen -r command. Just a little more. The driver was successfully downloaded and the installation began. The download took 1 hour and 40 minutes. Even if the installation starts, the session will be closed by time lapse or restart, but the update is working. In my case, the installation took 20 minutes to start. After a while, the installation is over and mining is resumed. The whole trip was about 2 hours. Congratulations on your hard work.
